Union wages war on teacher evaluations, tests
Teachers at the Seoul chapter of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers’ Union are starting a campaign to reject the government’s teacher evaluation system and nationwide tests of students’ academic achievements, according to documents obtained by the JoongAng Ilbo.
In materials distributed to 9,000 unionized teachers in Seoul on May 20, the union said it will soon launch a signature-collecting campaign to ditch the teacher evaluation system. It also asked teachers not to cooperate with the government’s evaluation system.
