Dismissal of Unionized Teachers put on Hold
The government has put the dismissals of 134 unionized teachers on hold, bowing to severe opposition. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology rescinded the orders issued to city and provincial education offices to fire the public school teachers who have been indicted by the prosecution for illegally becoming members of the Democratic Labor Party.
Under the current law, civil servants including public school teachers are not allowed to participate in political activities.
