Press Release: Government Cancels Need for 7 Day Quarantine

September 30, 2009

As I mentioned last week, the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has cancelled the requirement that all teachers returning from overseas must take a 7 day self-quarantine from teaching.  This had created a lot of stress for teachers who could have potentially lost income or vacation days due to this requirement and travel over Chusoek.

The official documents are currently only available in Korean using Hanguel software, however any Korean teacher will be able to read it easily.  Here are the files:

Outbreak prevention and response guidelines for the management of the institution (yuchojunggo, universities, colleges, schools).

The second page is the main page of interest and I have roughly translated part of this for your reference:

H1N1 is now widespread throughout Korea and the number of students with this flu is steadily increasing.  As the situation has changed, we, as the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, now need to also correct our official guidelines:

Activity: Overseas Trip

Before: Isolated at home for 7 days

Corrected: <This is deleted>

Note: This guideline is no longer in effect

I unfortunately had a lot of problems converting this file into a viewable document for Expacked, however I trust this still clears it up for everyone.  Please note that this is only a guideline and that some schools may still have additional measures to protect their school or organisation.
