Koreans’ Education Spending Defies Downturn

Enrollment at all-English kindergartens in Gangnam could easily cost more than a year of higher education at one of the country’s public universities.

According to officials in the private education industry, English kindergartens in Gangnam, a premium residential district in southern Seoul, charge tuition and fees of more than 10 million won ($8,000) a year. Some even cost close to 20 million won.
