Koreans, Expats Flock to Boryeong for Fun

The Korean Institute of Health and Environment said Tuesday that unsanitary environmental conditions caused the mud contamination which resulted in skin diseases for hundreds of people leading up to this year’s Boryeong Mud Festival.

About a week before the festival began, some 200 out of 1,500 local participants suffered from skin inflammation after being exposed to mud that had been contaminated with levels of bacteria that exceeded the average in the area’s soil and underground water supply.
