Welcome to Expacked (Issue #28)

June 25, 2009

Another week is coming to an end and I am looking forward to enjoying the great weather and relaxing over the weekend.

This week my co-teacher wanted me to include a large section of phonics into the English summer camp I am currently pulling together.  Although its an important component in teaching English (and one that Koreans need a lot more of when they FIRST start to learn English), the only thought that came to mind was of a class full of bored students at my summer camp.

Starfall

Luckily, however, I came across an amazing website called Starfall (www.starfall.com) that is fun, graphically appealing and perfect for teaching phonics.  Although its aimed at young children, this website has a wide range of videos, on-line class activities, story book reading and associated downloadable materials to make teaching so much easier.

It’s really an entire English course on-line – no membership is needed and its free!   Try it out and Click Here to see what you think.

As usual, we have a great summary of stories this week and the quick links are on the right.  I hope you enjoy the read and, of course, this week’s joke.

Thanks,

Ken
