Welcome to Expacked (Issue #18)

April 15, 2009

It’s amazing how quickly the seasons are changing in Korea.  It seemed it only just turned spring a few weeks ago, but we are already receiving some pretty hot weather.  This Saturday in Seoul they are forecasting a high of over 27 °c (80.6 degree Fahrenheit)!  Is summer coming early?

If you have not already done it, you need to get out and see the blossom festivals before you miss the chance.  It’s well worth it, even if you have to fight through the large crowds of people to see it.seoul-festivals-website

Tourism Korea has just released a fantastic new website highlighting  upcoming festivals from all over Korea.  This website has a wealth of information and shows you exactly where everything is – and it’s in English!  Click Here to head along and view the site.

There was a great editorial in The Korea Times this week titled “Korean Kids Learn English the Wrong Way”.  One sentence I would like to highlight from the article is “Korea should realize that its aspirations for English mastery can’t be achieved without a major change in its mental habits and cultural thinking“.  While I may not agree with everything he says, he does raise a lot of good points and its worth checking out.  I have included the story below.

As usual, we have a great summary of stories this week on the right.  I hope you enjoy the read and, of course, this week’s jokes.
