South Korean Teachers get a Taste of an American High School

March 19, 2009

Before they arrived at Temecula Valley High School on Wednesday, a group of South Korean teachers’ exposure to life in American high schools was limited to what they’d seen in the movies.  As they shadowed student government leaders, the foreign teachers found reality to be much different from what they’d seen on the big screen.

“The classroom management was surprising,” said Seowon Eom, a high school English teacher from Busan, South Korea. “It was much better than I expected.”

The two teachers are part of a group of 30 English teachers from Busan who have been visiting Temecula schools as part of an immersion program since late January. The program is being coordinated by the UC Riverside Extension division in partnership with the Temecula Valley Unified School District and Dongseo University in Busan.
