Translators and proofreaders

February 25, 2009

(I have recently received an email asking for help with translating and proofreading a new bilingual magazine.  As it may be of interest to some of our readers, I thought I would include it in Expacked. The email is below:)

As you may know, the Galbijim team has recently launched a bilingual magazine in Daegu and has plans to start other magazines in other cities.

However, they  need more translators and proofreaders:

  • we need people to translate Korean articles into English (doesn’t have to be perfect. 60% accurate is good enough for first draft)
  • we need people to translate English articles into Korean (like above, doesn’t have to be perfect. 60% accurate is good enough for first draft)
  • we need Koreans to proofread the Korean translation and make any needed edits
  • we also need a Korean or Korean speaker to translate some English vocab into Korean, for language study help. For example, an English article might have several phrasal verbs, idioms, and some slang. In these cases, we’d like to have some Korean translation of this target vocab.

At this stage, we need volunteers, however, we are in the process of acquiring further funding from the public and private sector, after which time, we can certainly begin to compensate.

Please let me know if interested. Soon, I will set up a group, where I will invite all interested writers and translators and we can communicate more easily.

Cheers,

Craig
