Welcome to Expacked (Issue #5)

January 13, 2009

It has been another bitterly cold week in the classroom as temperatures reached as low as -15 degrees Celsius (5 degree Fahrenheit) in some parts of Seoul.  People are now iceskating on the river by my school and I hear that some parts of the Han River have also frozen over.

Although it is cold, there’s still plenty of things that you can only do in winter.  One word, festivals – every man and his dog seem to be holding a winter festival now.  There’s the Seoul Hi Winter Festival, Inje Ice Fish Festival, Daegwallyeong Snow Festival, Mount Taebaek Snow Festival, Hwacheon Trout Festival and a International Ski Festival at Yongpyong Resort, Gangwon.  If you know of any others please let us know.

Of course, a lot of us are also making the most of snowboarding and skiing – Seoul is close to several ski resorts that make great day trips.  And don’t forget, there’s plenty of plays, concerts, parties and sights to see around Seoul as well.

I hope you enjoy this week’s stories and I look forward to hearing any comments you may have about the stories.  A summary of the stories is on the right.

Thanks,

Ken
