Green Light for 555m High Building in Seoul

January 8, 2009

Seoul is set to add yet another high rise building to its skyline.  This one,  however, has one major difference – its well over twice as tall as Seoul’s current tallest building and will be one of the tallest in the world when built.  seoul-lotte-world-2-tall-building-seoul1

The Lotte Group was given the green light this week by the Government to build their 555 metre building, a project that was first proposed back in 1994.  This tower is part of its Lotte World II construction project in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul

The major obstacle with this building has been the nearby military airbase.  this airbase is located only 9.2 kms away and, due to the size of the building, this posed a potential flight safety risk.

Its exciting times for Korea, with a couple of similar sized buildings also being built in Busan and Incheon.
